Yusef Lateeef: Gilles Peterson’s Tribute Mix Pt 1…. DEEP!
I’ve been meaning to do something on the master musician, Dr Yusef lateef, since his passing at the age of 93 in December 2013 and then Gilles Peterson rang me to say he was working on podcast that takes a chronological journey through his musical career. I therefore just had to sit back and wait – and this is it! Gilles has trawled through the composer/multi-instrumentalist/innovator’s extensive back-catalogue going all the way back to the 1950s, pulling out some of his personal favourite tracks. Apparently, this is Part One of his tribute mix. Enjoy – this a deep celebration, a life enhancing journey into the life and music of the mighty Yusef Lateef.
